What's happening with the Minero Rd project

First formal bid received: MSS Grading — $10,000

MSS Grading submitted a written estimate of $10,000 for the full mile: $6,500 for equipment rental and $3,500 for labor. This covers full regrade, crown, drainage swale clearing, and pothole fill with imported aggregate. Two more bids are still pending from Joshua Grading (Phelan) and FMK Grading (Hesperia). No one is being asked to commit money until all three bids are in hand.

County Supervisor's office points us to a permanent solution

Samuel Shoup from Supervisor Paul Cook's office (First District) responded to our outreach. CDBG grants aren't available to private roads — but he directed us to San Bernardino County's Special Roads District program and offered to help us through the process personally. A Special Roads District would add a small annual assessment to property taxes for every home on Minero Rd, funding professional maintenance on an ongoing basis — no more neighbor fundraisers every few years. The formation process takes 8–12 months and requires a Proposition 218 vote among property owners. We're pursuing it.

MSS Grading site visit completed

MSS Grading visited Minero Rd to assess the road in person. Formal written estimate followed on May 28. First of three bids being collected.

Reached out for funding assistance

Contacted three potential funding sources: Bryan Anderson at San Bernardino County CDBG (Community Development Block Grant program), the California Fire Safe Council, and the office of Assemblymember Thurston Smith (AD-33). Minero Rd is in a High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which strengthens the case for fire-safety-related grants. Waiting to hear back.

Project kicked off

Site launched. Letters going out to neighbors on Minero Rd. Reaching out to three grading contractors for written bids: Joshua Grading (Phelan), MSS Grading, and FMK Grading (Hesperia). No commitments yet from anyone, just getting organized.
